How to Replace a Pool Pump

Release time:2021.12.24

As the heart of a swimming pool, pool pump is the key appliance to keep pool water circulating and staying clean. But if you discover leaks, rust and grinding noises when your pool pump is running, you might be receiving signs that a new pool pump is needed. Check this guide which is helpful in pool pump replacement.

How to Choose the Right Pool Pump?

Before replacing your pool pump, evaluating your pool’s needs is a must. There are some numbers you need to confirm.

First, you need to know the pool volume, the size of the suction line pipes, and the minimum and maximum designed flow rate for your filter. Remember the flow rate of your pool pump should be between the two extremums, ensuring a complete circulation for your pool every 8 hours.

Second, filter size, plumbing size, water turnover rate and water feature requirements should all be taken into consideration. Otherwise, a too big pool pump will bring you an unexpectedly high electric bill, and a too-small pool pump will be too “weak” to circulate your pool. What’s worse, an inappropriate pool pump could also damage the whole filtering system.

For detailed guidelines, you can also refer to Pool Pump Sizing Guide For Your Swimming Pool for further advice.

Aquagem’s InverPro can dispel these annoyance. With a smart inverter controller, InverPro can intelligently control the pool pump speed precisely from 30-100% and ensure a healthy pool all day long. While it has strong water power, InverPro saves up to 15 times more energy, a combination of high energy efficiency and low energy consumption.

How to Install a Pool Pump?

1. Remove the Old Pool Pump

a. Before the arrival of the new pool pump, the old one should be safely removed. So, to ensure that, don’t forget to turn off the power at first; it’ll be better if you disconnect it at the circuit breaker.

b. Then, shut off the water valves to stop water flowing from the pool to the pump. Otherwise, a water backwash might bring you hassles.

c. Next comes to the detaching part. You need to remove all the hoses connecting the pipes and the pump, and it’s also necessary to use a screwdriver to remove the clamps on the hoses. After the hoses are detached from the pump inlet and outlet, a needle nose plier is needed to remove the bolts on the bottom of the pump. By far, you can separate the pump from the filter.

2. Install the New Pool Pump

After removing the old pool pump, place the new one in the right place. If you are installing the same model, just connect the hoses and clamps that you previously detached. But if the size doesn’t match exactly, you’ll need to adjust the plumbing height. Since you have determined the size of materials needed, connect the pump to the filter using the correct size of pipes, couplings and other components.

At length, make sure all the accessories have been installed in the right place and secure the pool pump tightly connected to the bottom plate. To confirm sound operation, prime the pool pump by filling it with water, to observe whether the suction is functioning well.
